When nineteen-year-old Denis Murphy sneaks onto an exclusive overnight train from Dublin to Belfast, he wasn’t counting on being caught. Or falling in love. But he has some trust issues to overcome first.
Oliver Lloyd is famous just for being rich, but he doesn’t let it affect him the way it does his sister. When he is asked to cut the ribbon at the launch of Ireland’s first extravagant overnight train service, he jumps at the chance to get away from his money-grabbing friends and his narcissistic ex-boyfriend and clear his head.
But when Denis and Oliver are thrust together onboard a luxury steam train, the screeching brakes won’t be the only thing making sparks fly.
If only they could get past their differences.
The Runaway Train book by Simon Doyle is “Charming” (Readers’ Favorite) and “Unique and heartwarming” (Love Bytes Reviews)
highfiredJuly 4, 2023Verified Keeping it real. The author, Simon Doyle, has a knack for creating believable characters that you find yourself caring about. Even characters in cameo roles have a realness. The relationship between Kai and Caleb feels is one most gay guys will relate to. I don't want to say too much for fear of a spoiler. Great book. Lee HJune 29, 2023Verified A great second book I very much enjoyed the first book in this 'Runaway' series and this second one didn't disappoint. The trials and difficulties of the main characters were beautifully portrayed. Their families were also solid characters. Very moving. ChoyangApril 24, 2023Verified Runaway hit! Simon Doyle is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors! Loved his first book, Runaway Train, and this new book, Runaway Skies is even better! There's some serious angst going on in the life of Kai, the college student from France who is now boarding with an Irish host family who have two sons, one of whom is also his age.Kai is guilt-ridden, keeping a promise made to his older sister, Fatima, a lesbian who faked her own drowning death and ran away from their religiously rigid-beliefs parents, who had set up an arranged marriage for her. The mother accidently saw Fatima with her girlfriend in an outdoor café and confronted her, forcing her to go home. But she escaped from their home later that night before she was forced to marry the man whom her father had chosen for her, or be killed.(yes, the horrible truth is that it is still a for-real circumstance sometimes, even in this day and age, within certain religiously rigid conservative families)Six years later, Kai has flown (panicky from fear of flying) to Ireland to attend college.Caleb, the host family's eldest son, has his own secrets. Dealing with his over-protective mother (he has a medical issue), and his divorced and living with a new girlfriend and mostly neglectful father, he and his younger brother, Charlie, are caught in the middle of an emotional roller-coaster between the fighting parents. There's a definite spark of interest between the two young men when they meet. This is an excellent, well-written storyline, with a nifty tie-in to the characters from the first book. Can't wait to see what Simon Doyle creates next!Highly recommend both books! (psst, read them both to get the bigger picture) KieranApril 11, 2023Verified amazing! again! After reading the first book and falling in love with the characters I was initially hesitant because of the new characters, but I’ve gotta say, Simon did it again! The characters in this book feel SO REAL! I love all of them, except maybe the ones we’re not meant to like.. I’m so glad that Caleb and Kai got their happy ending, and Caleb’s idea on what to do for a job? So fitting for him! Can’t wait for a third book! (Hopefully more than just that too!)
